Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program
Who is appropriate for the Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program?
If you have had a mild to moderate brain injury due to a TBI, stroke, concussion, brain tumor, anoxia, or chemical abuse you are a good candidate for the program.
Who is not appropriate for the Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program?
Individuals who are unable to be left unsupervised for an hour.
Individuals who do not have enough communication skills to participate in a group.
Individuals who require assistance in toileting and do not have anyone that can be there to assist them.
Individuals who are unable to tolerate 4 hours of treatment a day.
Do I have to attend the Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program 3 days a week for 6 months?
It is required that you attend all 3 days of treatment. Most clients do need to attend the program for 6 months to get the maximum benefit. Occasionally clients may finish the program sooner if they have met all of their treatment goals.
What Insurances cover the Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program?
Medical Assistance plans, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Partners, UCare, and Worker’s Compensation. Other private insurance plans may cover the program. Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans do not cover the program.
What does a typical day look like in the Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program?
The program runs from 9 am to 2 pm. You will participate in the Communication and Memory, Community Living Skills, Coping and Adaptation and Executive Thinking Skills groups. You have an hour break for lunch. The program focuses on using a planner system and learning to implement strategies to compensate for your attention, memory, problem solving, awareness, social skill and adjustment challenges.
How do I get started with the Group Cognitive Rehabilitation Program?
You need to get a referral from a physician for a Beyond Brain Injury evaluation from your doctor. This can be faxed to 612-484-4480. We can also assist you with getting the order if needed.
What does the Beyond Brain Injury evaluation include?
It includes a Mental health, Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy assessment.
How to I schedule an evaluation?
Once we receive the order from your doctor, we will contact you to schedule the evaluation.
General Questions
Do you provide transportation to and from Beyond Brain Injury?
We do not provide transportation to and from the program. We do however, assist in finding transportation options for our clients and can help set up medical transportation if that is covered by your insurance plan.
Does Beyond Brain Injury provide lunch?
We do not provide lunch. There are no food options on site. You will be required to bring your own lunch.
What kind of a doctor do I need to get to refer me to Beyond Brain Injury?
It needs to be a medical doctor. This could be your primary physician, neurologist, psychiatrist, rehabilitation doctor, or internal medicine doctor.
